Deputy George O. Witbeck, Marshal John W. Grant, and Deputy Nephi S. Jensen were shot and killed by a homicide suspect.

Officer Thomas F. Griffiths was shot and killed while pursuing a suspect on foot.

Officer William C. Nelson was murdered while conducting foot patrol with another Midvale officer.

Night Marshal Francis A. Colclough was shot to death during an attempted armed robbery.

Sergeant John H. Johnston died of a gunshot wound suffered three days earlier.

Officer Charles C. Riley was shot and killed while escorting a suspect to jail in Salt Lake City.
