Night Marshal Alexander J. Robertson was shot and killed in Eureka. 

At approximately 7:45 p.m., Marshal Robertson was summoned to a local saloon on a report of a disorderly person firing shots into the air. Marshal Robertson located the suspect with whom he was well acquainted. The suspect had recently lost his mining job and was heavily intoxicated. Rather than embarrass his friend, Marshal Robertson convinced the man to accompany him to city hall without being searched and handcuffed. As Marshal Robertson was unlocking the door, the suspect produced a pistol and shot him in the back of the head. The suspect fled but was pursued and immediately captured by his brother and several others who witnessed the crime. The suspect eventually pled guilty to second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison but was paroled four years later. Night Marshal Robertson was single. He is buried in Spanish Fork Cemetery.
