Patrolman Franklin D. Schaerrer died of surgical complications five days after suffering a massive hernia while attempting to lift a vehicle involved in a traffic accident near Payson.
Patrolman Schaerrer was transported first to his home and then to the hospital where he immediately underwent an emergency herniotomy. Following the surgery, he died of toxic complications. Patrolman Schaerrer was married and the father of three sons.
