Sheriff Dale E. Nelson lost his life while attempting a rescue.

Trooper Ray L. Pierson was shot and killed during a traffic stop west of Panguitch.

Agent Robert B. Hutchings was shot and killed during a drug raid at a Salt Lake City home.

Sergeant Lauren E. Dow was killed by a brush fire near Stockton.

Trooper William J. Antoniewicz was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Echo Canyon.

Lieutenant James R. Merrill was killed in an accidental fall on Bullock Road, south of Smithfield.
