He died at the scene. The driver of the truck fled but was identified by a passenger and arrested a short time later.
Officer Elmer was married and the father of two young children. He is buried in Murray City Cemetery.
The bronze memorial name plaque of Officer Jackson D. Elmer is sponsored by the Murray Police Officers Association.
I was working afternoon shift with Jack that day. We just finished lunch at Grecian Gardens and Jack got that accident call. I followed him to that call and Rob Hall had just arrived. That Ford pickup mowed them both down. Jack killed instantly and Rob severely injured. Two great officers. Jack died and Rob injured for life. Terrible night.
